Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then found multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police say preliminary tests indicate the fluid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior official commented the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
